Instructions for completing the form

  1. You will need to place a 'tick' on the form next to the type of membership you want. A list of all the membership categories is available. However, six scenarios are provided below as examples. The examples do not cover all circumstances but should provide enough information for you to complete the membership form and determine the correct membership rate:
    • Scenario 1 - UK adult member receiving the Bulletin
To enrol as an adult member based in the UK receiving the Bulletin you would tick 'Adult or Associate (Institutional) Member - receiving the AES Bulletin' as the 'Membership type' on the form. This is only £20 in total.
    • Scenario 2 - UK Bug Club membership for someone aged under 13
To enrol as an Bug Club member based in the UK you would tick 'Junior (under 18) - receiving the Bug Club Magazine' as the 'Membership type' on the form. This is just £12.
    • Scenario 3 - Overseas adult member receiving the Entomologist's Record
To enrol as an adult member based outside the UK and receiving the Entomologist's Record you would tick 'Individual Member - receiving the Entomologist's Record' as the 'Membership type' on the form. This is £25.00 for UK members but, as you live outside of the UK, you need to add £5 to cover postage. This means the total will be £35.00.
    • Scenario 4 - Gift Bug Club membership for someone aged under 13 based in the UK
To enrol someone else (UK based) as a junior member of the Bug Club as a gift you would tick 'Junior (under 18) - receiving the Bug Club Magazine' as the 'Membership type' on the form. You should also complete the section confirming this is a gift subscription on the form. This total cost is just £12.
    • Scenario 5 - Membership for a school (based in the UK) receiving the Bulletin and Bug Club Magazine
If you are a teacher and would like to enrol the school as a member of the adult part of the AES then you would tick 'Family or Associate Member - receiving both the AES Bulletin & Bug Club Magazine' as the 'Membership type' on the form. This is just £28.
    • Scenario 6 - UK adult member receiving the Bulletin and Entomologist's Record
To enrol as an adult member based in the UK receiving the Bulletin and Entomologist's Record you would tick 'Individual Member- receiving the AES Bulletin & Entomologist's Record' as the 'Membership type' on the form. This is just £40 in total and you'll receive a journal every month of the year.
  2. There are several ways to pay (as listed on the form) but the cheapest/easiest is to pay using a credit card (Mastercard or VISA only) or a cheque. If you wish to pay by cheque please make cheques payable to Amateur Entomologists' Society. If you a tax payer based in the UK, please complete the 'Gift Aid' section on the form. This allows us to claim back tax on your subscription and makes a huge financial difference to the AES.
    • Overseas memberships - Please note that we can only accept payment in Pounds Sterling (£), unfortunately we cannot accept payment in any other currency (including US dollars $) at this time. It is possible for overseas applicants to pay using a cheque or International Postal Giro but this will need to be drawn in Pounds Sterling from your bank. Your bank may charge you for this procedure. We therefore recommend that overseas members enrol using a credit card (Mastercard or VISA only), this method is usually cheaper than a cheque or International Postal Giro. Your credit card company will charge you at their exchange rate.
  3. Once you have completed the form please post it to our postal address (this is also given on the form). Please note that post sent via our PO Box can take some time to reach the society. Please allow 28 days for delivery.
